Applications open for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Public Charger funding

Businesses and organizations in B.C. can get up to $200,000 in rebates per charging station for projects that support large electric vehicles. As of August 1, 2024, applications are open for the CleanBC Go Electric Medium- and Heavy-Duty Public Charger Program. The program aims to fund Direct-Current Fast-Charging stations (DCFCs) in locations with high utilization of medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) vehicles to support the MHD industry’s adoption of electric vehicles.

Applicants will have until November 29, 2024 to complete their application. Funding must be approved before the project begins.

Charging stations are funded in two tiers based on their power output. They must have at least 150 kW charging capability; those between 150 and 250 kW are eligible for up to $150,000 each while stations 250 kW and greater can receive up to $200,000 in rebates. In both cases, rebates can cover up to 50% of the project costs, which include purchasing and installing charging stations, project management and engineering fees, networking equipment, paving, earthworks and other site preparation costs. See more details about the funding on the program page at https://pluginbc.ca/mhdpubliccharger/.

Public DCFCs for light-duty vehicles are also eligible for rebates through the existing Public Charger Program, which aims to fill charging station gaps and has funded fast-charger sites throughout the province.
