Federal Government Announces ZEV Strategy Planning

Today, Friday May 26th, the Federal Government announced plans to develop a national zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) strategy. For local government and provinces working toward increasing ZEVs (e.g. electric vehicles) the intent to form a national strategy is excellent news.

To help inform the strategy, advisory groups are being formed with stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and the non-government sectors. These groups will focus on 1) Charging Infrastructure 2) Technology 3) Public Awareness and Outreach 4) Total Cost of Ownership, and 5) Vehicle Supply.

A national strategy will be complemented by already announced funding for Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to deploy charging infrastructure (e.g. EV charging stations).

Ultimately, supporting EVs through this strategy has the potential to drastically reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions.
