City of Richmond EVie Lesson Toolkit (RELT)
The City of Richmond is excited to introduce the Richmond EVie Lesson Toolkit (RELT), a comprehensive digital teaching package designed for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students. This program was conceived after the City received a grant from the Emotive Community Outreach Incentive Program to promote Electric Vehicle (EV) awareness and spark creativity and innovation among youth.
To create this lesson toolkit, the City partnered with the following organizations:
- Richmond Electric Vehicle Ambassadors (REVAs) – youth from our Green Ambassadors who helped with EV outreach
- Plug-in Richmond
- Plug-in BC
The REVAs donated over 350 hours to help create this toolkit and Richmond School District teachers will be the first municipality in Canada to be offered this robust program.
From March 31, 2022 to April 22, 2022 the following material will be available to teachers in the Richmond School District through this website.
Please feel free to use all or parts of these materials:
*Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activity
To introduce the program to teachers, a virtual presentation by the REVAs is available and can be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each teacher who delivers any aspect of the Richmond EVie Lesson Toolkit and who also responds to the evaluation through Let’s Talk Richmond (http://www.LetsTalkRichmond.ca/EVieToolkit) or this online evaluation will be presented with a $20 Tim Hortons gift card on a first-come, first-served basis (limited gift cards available).
The Province of British Columbia passed the Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Act on May 30, 2019, which requires automakers to meet an escalating annual percentage of new light-duty ZEV sales and leases. Their targets are:
- 10% of light-duty vehicle sales by 2025
- 30% by 2030
- 100% by 2040
The City of Richmond believes it is important to teach youth about electric vehicles in order to become educated consumers and understand how they will play an essential role in BC’s goal to reach net-zero carbon emission by 2050.
We hope you and your students enjoy the Richmond EVie Lesson Toolkit and find it a valuable teaching guide.
