BYD & Translink Showcase E-Bus for Pilot

On Monday – May 15 – Translink begins a 3 month pilot of a 40ft E-bus. The E-bus is provided at no cost to Translink and has a range of 250km. The bus charges in 3 hours using two charging ports. The bus will be tested along several transit corridors with a 2nd pilot project scheduled for next year.

This pilot is part of Translink’s Low Carbon Fleet strategy. Adding this E-bus will displace 1.5 tonnes of GHG’s per week. While the cost of the E-bus more than conventional buses (just shy of $1 million for this 40ft model), the maintenance costs are drastically less, with a savings of up to 80%.
As Ted Dowling, Regional VP of BYD Canada, said, “This is a trolley that is unleashed.”
Be on the look out for the first E-bus in the Metro Vancouver area!
